• Amelia Valentine is a self-taught Toronto based painter living and working in the city’s west end.

While her preferred mediums and materials have changed over the years, her work continues to explore the aesthetic world that lies at the intersection of the accidental and the intentional.

The foundational layers of her current body of work are created intuitively: Using diluted inks that are manipulated at different stages of the drying process, she then applies colours and textures without a formal plan. The subsequent layers are created with acrylic paint and are flat and crisp, sometimes digital looking, shapes to highlight and contrast the textures and natural feel of the initial strokes. She aims to pare down the elements found in landscapes and still clearly evoke the idea and emotion of them in the viewer’s mind.

Amelia's work has been featured at Cry Baby Gallery, the Artist Project, and at Arterial Gallery for her (now sold out) debut solo show Heartbreak Motel.
