• Rubeena Ratcliffe is an artist based in Canada. Born and raised in Edmonton Alberta, later educated as an architect in Halifax, she became enthralled with painting landscapes, objects, or the relationship of a portrait to the space they occupy. Her works take on an abstract approach regularly inspired by childhood memories and of the present moment. A balancing act of the impermanence and permanence of things. Her technique includes simplifying the image into shapes and colours and building up the texture that brings forth a painting. She describes the impetus of her works as originating from the 'screenshots' in her mind and primarily creates using acrylics on canvas. Whether the final painting will be understood as a landscape, or a woman embracing a child, is inconsequential. Her hope is to make a beautiful painting that connects with the people in the room.
